Expert Update on Egypt: 10 Questions with Jennifer Murray

At Goway, we want to keep you informed of the latest news and insights about the destinations we sell. That’s why we share the latest travel updates from our staff. Jennifer Murray, our Group Reservation Manager, visited Egypt late last year. We caught up with Jennifer to get some updates on travel to Egypt and to share some useful tips to help you sell trips to Egypt.

1. Where did you travel?

I went across Egypt, from Cairo to Alexandria and along the Nile River.

2. What is the number one thing agents should know about Egypt?

That it’s an absolutely mind-blowing destination. Even if you are not into history, you will be amazed by the pyramids, the mummies, and how well everything has been preserved.

3. What is the biggest misconception about Egypt?

That the pyramids are the only things to see in Egypt. There is so much more to see than these very impressive tombs of ancient kings.

4. What was your favorite accommodation?

The Sonesta Sun Goddess Nile Cruise Ship. It’s a very contemporary cruise vessel. The suites are lovely and spacious, and the food and service are top notch.

5. What new things did you learn about Egypt?

There’s so much to see and do in Egypt, so I learned a lot about different cultures, customs, and the history of the region. Learning about the country’s ancient history was especially fascinating.

6. What was your favorite local experience?

How about every meal I had? The food is amazing in Egypt. There’s so much fantastic local cuisine and so much color and flavor to everything you eat.

7. What was your favorite individual destination or landmark?

I loved Alexandria. It felt like I was back holidaying in the Costa Del Sol in Spain, but with way more people and a great holiday vibe to it.

8. What were your favorite local dishes or drinks?

I loved the mango. Everywhere we went they had the most delicious, freshly squeezed mango juice.

9. What would be the perfect complement as an extension to this trip?

Definitely encourage your clients to spend a few nights in Alexandria at the end of their trip. Trips to Egypt are typically very busy. You’re up at the crack of dawn to avoid the heat, so there’s often not a lot of down time during the main tours. Alexandria would be the perfect way to unwind and enjoy some relaxation at the end of a busy itinerary.

10. What are your top three tips for agents who want to sell Egypt?

One: Upgrade your Nile cruise experience to the Sonesta Sun Goddess Nile Cruise Ship. It is worth the money.

Two: Stay a few extra nights in Cairo to explore. You don’t want your clients to feel rushed and there’s a lot to see in the city.

Three: Definitely add on a stay in Alexandria, as it’s a great beach spot that offers a contrast to the rest of the country.
