Escape to London

Whether it is summer or winter there is something for everyone in the world-famous city of London.

Every year people flock to London in the summer. The weather can be beautiful and it’s great to see the flowers in full bloom at Kensington Palace, but there is plenty to see and do outside of the summer months. For people living in eastern North America, London makes for a great weekend getaway. Seriously! People fly to Vegas for a weekend, which is a five-to-six hour flight, when they can fly an hour, or an hour-and-a-half, longer and be in London. London has all that Vegas has and more and should not be underestimated as a fantastic getaway destination.

Harrods Building. Facade lit up at night.

Our London Theatre Escape package is perfect for travellers wanting to see famous shows in one of the world’s best theatrical districts: London’s West End. At night, the area comes alive. It’s a perfect place to wander the streets, admire the architecture of the buildings, and pop into the great pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal before catching a play.

During the daytime, pop in and out of shops on Bond Street or Oxford Street. Regardless of the weather, it’s also essential to visit Harrods. The elaborate window displays, especially at Christmastime, help make the outside of this department store as much of a must-see destination as the inside. Once you do get inside, wrap yourself in luxury or pick up a trinket to take back home. There is plenty to see and do here; the food hall is a destination in itself.

Kensington Palace and Gardens.

As for museums, London is loaded with them, many of which are free. A few of the most famous London museums are the Tate Modern, the National Gallery, the Natural History Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, the British Museum, and the British Library. Depending on what your interest is there is something for everyone. Also, when the weather is rainy (which can happen any time of year in London), museums are a great place to escape the rain and take in some culture.

There are also plenty of other attractions that are worth a visit all year round:

Borough Market – This is a great place to go when hungry. The market has everything from fantastic coffee stalls to baked goods. Enjoy wandering and picking up some snacks or visit one of its neighbouring pubs for a drink and a meal.

Royal Guard outside Buckingham Palace

Buckingham Palace – You can visit select rooms of this famous palace. I highly recommend visiting the Royal Mews. The pieces are exquisite and demonstrate a living history of the Royal Family.

Kensington Palace – If you follow the Royal Family, then this stop is on your bucket list. It regularly displays exhibits and showcases personal items of the famous family.

Kew Gardens – These stunning gardens are worth a visit for anyone wanting to discover an oasis in the big city. They’re open all year round and the botanic gardens are a particular highlight. Consider joining one of the guided tours that are included on your entry ticket.

London Eye – Have a glass of bubbly at the top as you enjoy the view and take some photos of London’s most iconic sites from high above.

The Shard – This iconic building is another great attraction in the sky. It offers a spectacular view from the top looking down over London.

There is so much to see in London including 5-star restaurants and premium hotels. It has something for every budget and style of travel. It should be on every globetrotter’s list for must-do weekend escapes in 2019.
