Whetting Our Appetites on the Magic of Africa
It goes without saying that all of our Holidays of a Lifetime tours carry our “promise of something special”. That includes the offering of memorable and unique dining experiences. Our new Magic of Africa itinerary certainly lives up to this, and includes a variety of gourmet meals fit for royalty.
We start off with a welcome dinner on our first night in Cape Town, South Africa, at the Azure Restaurant at the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa. Not only is there a choice of exquisite cuisine, but the views are incredible!
On day two of our journey we stop at The Flagship, a restaurant in Simonstown, where we enjoy a 5-course seafood lunch with wine pairing. Your host, chef, and sommelier is Duncan Doherty, who hails from the gourmet capital of South Africa, Franschhoek. Duncan is an acclaimed chef with a diverse portfolio and offers a warm welcome to his chef’s table. All the wines at The Flagship are from the Graham Beck Wine Estate, one of South Africa’s leading eco-friendly wine producers.
Another completely different, yet equally entertaining experience, is the evening spent at Richard’s Supper Stage and Bistro. Here you will be entertained and enthralled by the cast of “Kaapse Stories from the Mother City.” This really is dinner theatre at its best. It offers a blend of humorous storytelling, powerful and emotional songs, and likable performers unique only to Cape Town. It gives a real insight into the colourful and cosmopolitan community that thrived at the foot of Table Mountain in District Six. A four-course meal is enjoyed during the course of the evening, and one certainly leaves with a happy heart!

Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms, and lies in the heart of the Cape Winelands between Paarl and Franschhoek. Here we enjoy lunch at the Greenhouse, positioned in the gardens under the oak trees. It is the perfect place to relax, as we nibble on fresh farm produce which reflects the colours of the season, before we embark on an olive and wine tasting tour of the estate.
Our next dinner is a 14-course Cape Malay and African menu at the Gold Restaurant in Cape Town, transporting us from Table Mountain to Timbuktu. This culinary experience is accompanied by interactive traditional entertainment – incorporating singers, dancers, puppets, and musicians.

The next 3 nights are spent at the luxurious Lion Sands River Lodge in the Sabi Sands, where every meal is a treat for the taste buds! A private bush dinner under the African stars… with the sounds of nature as our background music is definitely a highlight that will long be remembered.
Our next stop is Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, where we have two nights to enjoy the sumptuousness that is found at Elephant Camp. Fine dining is accompanied by fresh ingredients, including herbs grown in the lodge gardens. Traditional African dishes enhance this luxury game lodge experience of dining on the deck, while enjoying sweeping views of the Savannah, with the spray of the falls as a backdrop. We also indulge on lunch at the Lookout Café, which is perched 120m above the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River, overlooking the Batoka Gorge.

The pace for our last two nights slows down slightly, as we board the opulent Zambezi Queen – our floating hotel on the Chobe River in Botswana. All our meals are prepared by the locally-trained Namibian kitchen staff who are proud to display their skills in the hearty breakfasts, delectable lunches, and mouth-watering dinners they serve.

With so much to see, do, and experience on this luxury Holiday of a Lifetime, one thing is for sure… no one will ever go hungry on our definitive Southern Africa journey!
