Asiatic Lion

Lions, Tigers and Bears In Asia

The King of the jungle in not only in Africa. Almost extinct, the Asiatic Lion still roams the land in the Indian sub-continent. Just south east of Agra, home to the Taj Mahal  , is the Gir National Park in the state of Gujarat. Here lives the last known population of these magnificent endangered mammals. Started in 1965 by the Forest Department, this 1412 sq km wildlife conservation is home to approximately 411 lions as of 2010 which was the last census and increases each year. The natural ecosystem created here is bringing back these wonderful creatures. It’s no wonder that this majestic creature is India’s iconic symbol. A safari in the Gir National Park can be added on to a Private Golden Triangle with Ranthambore itinerary.
