A Glimpse into the Cape to Cairo Journey of a Lifetime Africa Vacation: Ethiopia

Goway’s 32-Day Cape to Cairo… Ultimate Journey of Lifetime is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This extensive and luxury Africa vacation spans eight countries on the continent, one of which is the ancient land of Ethiopia.

The oldest country on the African continent, Ethiopia still displays culture, traditions, and history that date back over 3000 years – derived from ancient, indigenous tribes to the first Christians. Once known as Abyssinia, a journey through incense-scented Ethiopia is a journey through time that will fascinate, educate, and entertain any inquisitive traveller who’s looking for a truly outstanding adventure. Ethiopia is quickly emerging on the travel scene, with its alluring ancient sites and delicious cuisine – making it a fascinating and off-the-beaten-track destination.

While on your 32-Day Cape to Cairo journey, you’ll spend 2 nights and 3 days in Ethiopia. We start in the capital city of Addis Ababa, with a stay at the Sheraton Hotel. Although strolling the streets here takes you on a journey back in time, you will find that tradition is met with modernity. Addis Ababa has modern cafes, plenty of jacaranda trees, and an atmosphere of emerging optimism. There are also a number of museums. The Ethnological Museum is located within Emperor Haile Selassie’s former palace. As well, the National Museum of Ethiopia boasts a collection that ranks among the finest in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The next morning we depart for Ethiopia’s iconic attraction – the small town of Lalibela. Here you will find 12th-century UNESCO-designated churches which are carved into the dry ground. Here you’ll navigate through a network of trenches and alcoves to witness some mystic ancient rituals, where you’ll find local people deep in chant and prayer inside the atmospheric altars. Lunch is enjoyed at the famous Ben Abeba Restaurant, which offers authentic Ethiopian cuisine, as well as spectacular 360-degree views from the hill, on which it is perched, of the surrounding villages and countryside. The building is an architectural treasure in its own right, with a number of different sitting areas. Later, we take a private charter flight back to Addis Ababa and enjoy dinner at our hotel.
