Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park, South Island, New Zealand

The Globetrotting Diaries: Experiencing ‘100% Pure New Zealand’

I am from Buenos Aires, Argentina and for as long as I can remember I have had a calling for travel. I travelled to many places with my family, but my dream was to visit and live in New Zealand for a little bit. When people asked me, “Why New Zealand?”, I didn’t have an answer to be honest. There was just something inside me that wanted to go there.

Finally in March 2011 I quit my job and travelled to New Zealand. My original plan was to spend six months over there and I ended up staying for three years, which should tell you how much I loved it! I traveled all around the North and South Islands and I even worked in a “picking and packing” house of kiwi fruit and cherries.

My favourite part of New Zealand is the South Island. I drove all the way from Wellington, took the ferry across to Picton and continued driving along the east coast down to Queenstown. This place definitely became one of my favourites. I loved everything about the area: Queenstown, Wanaka, Te Anau, and Milford Sound. As a nature lover, the landscape is stunning! I also loved all the bars, cafes, streets, hills, hikes, and adventure activities such as skydiving and bungee jumping (yes, I did both). The magnificent fjords and the roads—everything was and is so perfect that it’s hard to believe that it’s real!

It was very hard to leave New Zealand as I was completely in love with the country and the people. But I am very sure I will visit New Zealand again. I suggest that if you can, you should experience this lovely country for yourself and then you will understand everything that I am saying.
