Likuliku Lagoon Resort is a phenomenal couples-only hotel set in the beautiful string of Mamanuca Islands in Fiji, and is one of our favourite resorts in the entire South Pacific. The resort was the first in Fiji to offer the fabled ‘Over-water’ bungalows first seen in French Polynesia’s Bora Bora and Tahitian Islands, and it’s obvious the property is a leader in providing top notch Idyllic Island experiences. The South Pacific really sells itself, with heavenly weather, divine sunsets and unforgettable scenery, but it is the details which really make up the perfect South Pacific Escape. Upon arrival in Fiji, visitors to Likuliku are met at the International Airport in Nadi, and transported out to the beautiful string of Islands known as the Mananucas, one of the most beautiful places on earth. Now, by ‘transported’, we of course are referring to your choice of Seaplane, Helicopter, Private Water Taxi or Catamaran transfer, arriving at the Island resorts pier in style where you’ll be welcomed in Polynesian style with songs, flower-necklaces and tropical drinks.
“Likuliku” was the name given to the lagoon by the first inhabitants and means “Calm Waters”; the vibe around the entire island is definitely that! You’ll notice as you walk into the breezy reception area that the property is stunningly luxurious and seems to effortlessly live up to its superb reputation. The beach is nothing other than amazing, and the resort’s commitment to relaxation and escape is cheekily expressed in the smiles of the very friendly staff, who will leap at the opportunity in suggesting a good place for a swim or where to kayak for sunset views. This may in fact be the hotel’s true charm, a natural and authentic expression of relaxed luxury, something we feel a lot of beach resorts around the world struggle with. In this day and age travellers expect top notch food, and Likuliku’s Executive Chef creatively emphasizes Pacific Rim cuisine. The ‘Chef’s Canape’, delivered daily to your room is a true treat.
If you’re planning to run off to a tropical Island in the South Pacific and are looking for a hideout, Likuliku will deliver. With 10 Overwater Bungalows and 18 Deluxe Beachfront Bures (cabins), we actually recommend our travellers mix it up and stay in both types of rooms, if you don’t mind packing your bag during your stay. Both types of rooms have spacious decks and day-beds, but both offer a distinct experience, while every room has breathtaking views and is mere steps from the island’s turquoise waters. You can snorkel or scuba dive the pristine waters, but a highlight for many visitors here is to actually jet ski over to nearby Modriki Island, made famous by the Tom Hanks film ‘Cast Away’. Picnic lunches can be prepared at your request, and you can arrange for transport and a private afternoon on a small nearby island. With so much to do in the day, couples can opt for a twilight-massage complete with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot Champagne in the evening, or go for a relaxing foot massage at the resort’s spa overlooking the water. Likuliku would certainly be the ideal place to celebrate something special with wedding and romance packages obviously available.
