Your clients can start their Aussie holiday by flying into Melbourne directly with Qantas. Packed into the compact state of Victoria is a wealth of diverse regional areas and attractions to explore. From sweeping coastline and pristine beaches to national parks and forests teeming with wildlife there are abundant experiences for your clients to enjoy. For those seeking food and wine experiences, the Yarra Valley offers some of Australia’s finest wines and the Mornington Peninsula provides locally sourced gourmet dishes overlooking the sea. Best of all, many of Victoria’s unique and varied landscapes are easily accessible as day trips from Melbourne.

Melbourne

The city of Melbourne sits on the Yarra River and is lauded for its sense of style and elegance. The city hosts some of Australia’s premier festivals and events including the Australian Open (tennis) and the Formula 1 Grand Prix. It also offers high end shopping, a diversity of culinary experiences and a vibrant arts scene. Your clients can wander through Melbourne’s laneways and arcades to discover a local side to the city or visit the Royal Botanic Gardens which offer a therapeutic respite from the pace of city life.

The sparsely populated Northern Territory separates Queensland and Western Australia. Its capital, Darwin, is located on the tropical tip of Australia’s north coast. ‘Urban meets remote’ sums up the character of this city. Friendly and laid back, it brings together a wide variety of ethnicities including a substantial Indigenous Australian population.

Three hours away is the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, Australia’s largest national park with wetlands, Aboriginal rock art galleries, thundering waterfalls, and escarpments with breathtaking views. To the south, Alice Springs is the country’s most famous outback town and gateway to the Red Centre. This remote town (located halfway between Adelaide on Darwin and nearly 1500 kilometres/950 miles from the nearest major city), is popular as a gateway to nearby natural wonders such as Uluru (Ayers Rock), and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas).

Uluru (Ayers Rock)

Uluru is a sandstone rock formation and UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated 450 kilometres/280 miles south-west of Alice Springs. It rises 348 metres/1140 feet above the ground, but the bulk of the rock is actually subterranean. The Aboriginal name Uluru means Island Mountain, and this mountain changes colour at different times of the day and year. Just 25 kilometres/16 miles to the west, The Olgas (or Mount Olga) offers more outback mystery. Known to the Aboriginal people as Kata Tjuta, meaning Many Heads, this ‘mountain’ has eroded to leave 36 atmospheric domes, which spring up out of the desert.

HOW TO GET THERE

Goway has a wide variety of Victoria and Northern Territory packages to choose from, including top level resorts such as the Red Centre’s Longitude 131, as well as more family or budget-friendly options. Or go beyond the Red Centre and see the Best of the Outback from bottom to top end. For those looking to sample the highlights of Victoria, the Classic Victoria is a great choice.

With Australia’s largest domestic network, Qantas makes crossing Australia’s vast distances quick, easy, and comfortable. Its partnerships with airlines in North America reach cities across the continent, and passengers enjoy a generous checked baggage allowance of at least two 50lb pieces with every ticket.
