About the Authors

  • Digital Content Editor - When he’s not paddling a canoe or drinking copious amounts of coffee, you’ll find Adam talking about some kind of travel plans. He spent a month doing Tai-Chi in China, horse-camped in Mongolia, rode 3rd class trains all over India, tour-guided in Europe, worked in Namibia and surfed in Costa Rica – the travel bug bit this Canadian repeatedly. Food is one highlight of any destination for him, and he’s admitted on a few times to be willing to try just about any food once, and apparently “putrefied shark wasn't that bad”.

  • Born and raised in Holland, Akke Bos moved to Canada with her family as a teenager. This started a wanderlust from which she has not looked back. While living in Australia, she explored every nook and cranny of the South Pacific. Her travels took her all over Southeast Asia but her heart was taken once she set foot in Africa. The continent feeds her passion for nature, wildlife, fantastic food and wine, and "outside the box" travel experiences. After 30 years of planning group tours, Akke is currently living in the Middle East, enjoying the expat life with her pilot husband in Bahrain.

  • You might say that Aren was destined to become a Globetrotter after his family took him to Germany two times before he was four. If that wasn’t enough, a term spent in Sweden as a young teenager and a trek across Vietnam, Cambodia, and Thailand confirmed that destiny. An independent writer, director, and film critic, Aren has traveled across East and Southeast Asia and Eastern and Central Europe. His favourite travel experience was visiting the major cities of Japan’s largest island, Honshu, but his love for food, drink, and film will take him anywhere that boasts great art and culture.

  • With over 40 years experience in the travel industry, and working for Goway for the last 15 years, British-born Robert Glazier has travelled to over 70 countries. “I have never met a destination which didn’t have something to interest me,” he says. His first foray abroad was from England to Switzerland on a school trip at the age of 14, and that was the start of a long journey. An avid runner, Robert’s favourite way of exploring a destination, is to don his running shoes and really get to know it on foot, even if it means sometimes getting lost! His advice to other travellers? Always wonder what is around the next corner!

  • IslandEscapes General Manager - Growing up in a family travel business, Bronwyn has been travelling from a very young age. Her favourite experience was 3 months spent backpacking through India and Southeast Asia. She counts many countries among her ‘favourites,’ but is especially fond of Australia for its lifestyle, Cambodia for its culture and resilience, and Japan for its contrasts. She holds the proud distinction of being Goway’s only former Bollywood star – having once starred in a Coke commercial in Mumbai.

  • President and Founder, Goway Travel - Goway Travel started in Bruce’s Toronto apartment in 1970 with a telephone and an atlas. A former Australian banker turned tour-guide, seeing the world became his most recommended personal investment, and has since created a world company specializing in long-haul destinations for real travellers. While his bucket list only gets longer, he has run the Athens marathon, climbed Mt Kilimanjaro and bush-wacked in Papua New Guinea, he’s actually a closet-magazine editor who loves nothing more than using his scissors, red pen and glue stick to add the final touches to the latest brochure. While 40+ years in North America have made him appreciate all weather conditions, as an Aussie all his staff know he’s waiting to buy them a round on Fridays at the local office pub - rain, snow or sunshine.

  • GM of Retail Sales at Goway Travel - Carolyn Weppler has tracked gorillas in Rwanda, been proposed to in Paris (she accepted, naturally!), and travelled to 53 countries, counting Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Russia, Sri Lanka and even Afghanistan among her travel memories. Originally from Hong Kong, Carolyn lived in the UK before settling in Canada. A self-professed ‘foodie’ traveller, her favourite destinations are Nepal, Peru, Uganda, and anywhere else where she can roam local markets and experience new flavours.

  • Globetrotting Contributing Editor - Christian’s first globetrotting adventure saw him get lost exploring the streets of Saigon. Following his nose to Asia’s best coffee, two lifelong addictions were born. A freelance writer and novelist, Christian’s travels have since taken him around his native Australia, Asia, Europe, and much of North America. His favourite trips have been through Japan, Spain, and Brazil, though with a love of off-beat, artsy cities, he’ll seize any opportunity to return to Paris, New York, or Berlin.

  • Asia General Manager - At age 20, Diane set off to backpack the world as a solo woman traveller. She spent a year travelling through Asia, Australia, and the South Pacific, only to return home for a brief respite before spending 2 years travelling overland from Guadalajara, Mexico down to Rio, Brazil – making every stop in between. Diane has since retired that backpack but not her passion for travel. She’s made a career out of telling people where to go, and continues to traverse the globe. She’s been to all 7 continents and more than 75 countries.

  • Latin America Product & Marketing Manager - Born in Australia and raised in Canada and Papua New Guinea, Don took his first solo trip to Bali – aged just 13. Since then, Don’s travels have taken him to every continent. He’s been a backpacker in Asia, Europe and Egypt, an overland adventurer in East and Southern Africa, and an overland driver in South and Central America. He is especially fond of Peru, Patagonia and Namibia, though his longest adventure to date has been a London to Kathmandu run via the Middle East.

  • Travel blogger Emily Baillie is on a mission to inspire people to break free of their daily routines and explore the world. She has hiked the Inca Trail in Peru, rode camels in Morocco and spent a year living in Dublin, Ireland. Wherever she travels, she gets excited to find street art, wineries or great hiking trails. She is a proud Canadian who believes that "the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page."

  • Marketing Manager at Goway Travel - Emma has lived throughout the USA including seven years in Philadelphia, where her daughter was born. A passion for learning languages has taken Emma through France, Germany, and Brazil (we understand Portuguese is best learnt on a tropical beach!). Her favourite travel moments include walking down the Siq at sunset past candles to catch her first glimpse of Petra, and a barbecue on Phillip Island, Australia. Her favourite destinations are Jordan, Brazil, and her native England.

  • Africa Experts Product Manager – Although British born and now Toronto based, Kirsty grew up in South Africa and is completely passionate about all things Africa. She finds it hard to choose a favourite destination, but lists Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mozambique, and Botswana as some of the most special places she has visited, and feels it’s not just about where you go and what you see, but who you get to experience it with. Kirsty is always up for an adventure and will try anything once. As such, she has para-glided in South Africa, zip lined in Mauritius, dived the Red Sea, hot air ballooned in Egypt, and even swam in the Okavango Delta. Next on Kirsty’s bucket list is to climb Kilimanjaro!

  • Downunder Product and Marketing Manager - Melbourne-born Meg arrived in Canada in January with no winter coat, one suitcase, a one week booking at a youth hostel, and a sight-unseen job offer at Goway Travel. She thought she’d stay for a year – that was 12 years ago! Never one to shy away from adventure, Meg has been in the industry for 23 years and has journeyed extensively through Europe, Asia and North America. Meg’s heart however belongs to the South Pacific, including New Zealand, Fiji, and her native Australia.

  • IslandsEscapes Product Manager - At a young age, Mike's family departed on an adventure of a lifetime, moving to Saudi Arabia and travelling throughout the world. When living in Europe as a young adult, Mike decided to create travel memories of his own, which ignited a passion for the industry. He has since travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji, Cook Islands, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Maldives with Goway.

  • AfricaExperts General Manager - South African-born Moira has lived in San Francisco and Toronto, but her travel map includes over 50 countries. Her heart still swings toward all things African, particularly Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park, the Grumeti Reserves in Tanzania, and Botswana’s Okavango Delta. Her most treasured attributes are a great sense of adventure and a lousy sense of direction, which have combined to lead her to some wonderful travel memories and local people.

  • Europe Product Manager - Although born in Canada, Nadya has spent much of her life globetrotting, as her parents believed that travelling was a form of education. At 20, she packed her backpack and set off to Australia for a work holiday, where she would later return to earn her degree in Tourism Management. She has also lived and worked in Ireland. Having extensively explored Europe and South America, Nadya has since been to all 7 continents and is always looking to see and experience more.

  • Globetrotting Editor and Contributor - For the past 25 years, Tara has travelled to various places around the globe, including numerous countries in Europe and Asia. Some of the most memorable and favourite trips have been to Egypt, Italy, Thailand, Vietnam, and China. Istanbul, Turkey still sits at the very top of Tara’s bucket list, and her heartstrings always tug for anything along the Mediterranean – where she has a special love for Italy’s Amalfi Coast.
